NY State Parks and Campgrounds in St. Lawrence County:  To Camp, Swim, Picnic

Nestled between the majestic St. Lawrence River and the Adirondack Mountains, St. Lawrence County has a number of state parks for the camping family to stay at and enjoy a variety of activities from hiking, fishing, boating or even just to lay on a beach.

The following is a listing of New York State Parks and campgrounds located in St. Lawrence County, where they are located, and what they offer to the camper visiting the area or the family planning a weekend getaway.

Lisbon Beach/Campground 
Located on Route 37 in Red Mills six miles east of Ogdensburg  with a total of 55 sites plus eight tent sites, two bathhouses, a pavilion, a sandy beach, two new boat ramps, playgrounds, tennis court, basketball court, volleyball court, horseshoes, and picnic areas.  Open Memorial Day weekend until 1st week in October.

Coles Creek State Park
Coles Creek State Park, located on State Highway 37 between Waddington and Massena, opens in mid-May and closes after Columbus Day.  This state park has open campsites near a swimming beach on a small sheltered bay on the St. Lawrence River that is ideal for boating and fishing.  The park also has a playground, playing fields and nature hiking trails.  A marina on the mouth of Coles Creek lies just north of the park.  This state park has boat rentals, a beach, pavilions, picnic tables, a playground, showers, and tent and trailer sites.  Call (315) 388-5636

Robert Moses State Park
Located on the St. Lawrence River just north of Massena, the Robert Moses State Park offers a multitude of opportunities for the camper, including wooded campsites and cabins, a marina and boat launch, prime fishing on the St. Lawrence River, picnic areas, a swimming beach, tennis courts and a nature museum.  Camping season opens in mid-May and continues through Columbus Day.  The swimming beach is open from late June through Labor Day.  The marina operates from Memorial Day through September.  The state park is located off State Highway 37, 3 miles north of Massena.  Visitors reach the state park through a tunnel under the Eisenhower Lock.  Call (315) 769-8663.

Eel Weir State Park
Eel Weir State Park is smaller than some of the other state parks in the county.  It's located on the Oswegatchie River and just several miles from the great fishing on Black Lake.  This state park is open from Memorial Day through Columbus Day weekend.  Thirty-eight campsites are available, as well a picnic area and pavilion, showers, and a boat launch.  Eel Weir State Park is located off Route 812, around seven miles south of Ogdensburg.  Call (315) 393-1138.

Higley Flow State Park
The Higley Flow State Park in Colton, is open from Memorial Day until Labor Day.  Located in the Adirondack foothills and on the Racquette River, this state park offers campers a variety of activities such as hiking on the Beaver Pond Nature Trail, taking advantage of a sandy beach on the river's reservoir, or taking the canoe or boat and do some fishing.  There is a boat launch site, pavilions, picnic tables, a playground, and tent/trailer sites available at Higley Flow State Park.  It's located off of State Highway 56 in South Colton and on Cold Brook Drive.  Call (315) 262-2880.

Jacques Cartier State Park
Located on State Highway 12, three miles west of Morristown, Jacques Cartier State Park, opens from mid-May through Columbus Day weekend.  With a sheltered bay protecting the swimming beach and a camper's dock, this state park is perfect for boaters and anglers looking to do some fishing on the St. Lawrence River.  There is a beach, a boat launch site, dockage, picnic tables, a playground, showers, and tent/trailer sites.  Call (315) 375-6371.

St. Lawrence State Park Golf Course
Although the St. Lawrence State Park is not for campers, those who want to play a round of golf as they pass through might want to stop here.  This 9-hole course can be played twice from different tees for an 18-hole round.  It is open from late April to Columbus Day.  Picnic areas are available and hiking trails offer splendid views of the St. Lawrence River.  This state park is located between Ogdensburg and Morristown on Rt. 37.  Call (315) 393-2286.

Blevins Campsites

Located on the banks of the Oswegatchie River, seven miles from Ogdensburg and access to Black Lake.  Blevins offers 32 shaded campsites with power, sewer and water.  Also available are furnished cabins, boat launch, dumping station, and small store.  Open May 15th thru October 1st.

Houmiel's Campsites

Located on the banks of the St. Lawrence River in Red Mills.  Offers sewage connection, docking, fishing and swimming.
